Good afternoon and welcome to today's game. I'd like to wish a warm welcome to Andy Scott and all his staff, the players, the directors and the fans from Rotherham United.
Today sees us entertain a Rotherham team that we obviously have a close link to having previously played them in the playoff final. But much has changed since then and they've had a decent season so far so we know we're in for a tough game and we're prepared for a tough game. At this moment in time everything that we get from our supporters is crucial so please get behind your team here today.
It's been a weird few games really, I think that the game here with Hereford we never really got going, I thought we played okay and it was a reasonable performance. But at this stage of the season we need reasonable results to go along with reasonable performances, unfortunately we didn't get it as we went down to a single goal. I thought we huffed and puffed in the 2nd half without really making enough opportunities, when I look back at that I am a bit disappointed.
We then moved on to Millwall for the replay and went into the game with too many attacking players missing and I thought we did really well in the 1st half, the 2nd was a bit more difficult but we just couldn't get our attacking play going and I think that the fact that so many attacking players were missing took away from what I was hoping the team to be. Even though we were away from home I was planning to provide an attacking performance but we just couldn't get that going.
We then moved on to Crewe and as we all know this is a weird and wonderful game, with 70 minutes gone it was 1-1 and I honestly thought there was one winner, we looked good, we looked strong, we looked organised, we looked disciplined and I thought that the whole side was performing well.
But unfortunately a back-pass to Chris caught a little bobble and it went straight in the goal, it's a freak goal so there we are on 75 minutes having had the lion share of the game, looking the most confident team, 2-1 down and you throw people forward, you have a go to try and get back but it never worked for us. I thought that the performance was alright and the result was not a reflection of the match.
Tuesday night we travelled to Torquay and what can I say about that, the people that travelled thank you very much for your support. But I think it was 70% us, I'm going to use the word unlucky again, I don't really believe in luck but how we didn't take something from that game I don't know. The one saving grace from the last couple of games is that we've performed so well, still with players missing but they'll hopefully be coming back.
We have enough games to really improve the results, the performances have been good enough to win games and we have to concentrate hard on doing enough to win the games. We need every help we can get from our supporters as well as from ourselves.
Just looking forward we've got a free week this coming week which will hopefully allow one or two players to come back from injury but we'll have to see how they are. Will we do anything in the transfer market? Well we'll sit down with John Gowens to try and find out exactly where we are injury wise, who's a long way away. Then it'll be easier for me to decide what to do.
But for now I'm focusing on this game, the players are focused on this game today. Let's get behind the team, give them all your encouragement to help them get the three points.
Enjoy the game, John.
