Paul really is a rags to riches story. He was spotted by John Still playing in the Essex Intermediate league with White Ensign where he scored 96 goals in two years. He had a two-week trial at Southend United but before they could offer him any further trials he opted to sign a contract with Dagenham & Redbridge in July 2005. After an impressive start with the Daggers, Paul broke his leg but returned to the team in the last few games of the season. In 2006/7 Paul found goal scoring no problem in the Clubs Conference winning season and finished as the league's top scorer with 28 goals including some spectacular efforts. He won an England semi-pro cap in February 2007, scoring on his debut in Northern Ireland. The Daggers striker missed the first few games of last season with a knee injury but his first appearance in the football league saw him score the winner for his Club against Lincoln. Paul was troubled by injury throughout the season and lost two teeth in the Boxing Day game at Barnet and cracked a bone in his leg in training the week after. Now fully fit he'll be attempting to reproduce the form that won him the golden boot 2 seasons ago.
