Next Up - Cheltenham Town (H)

Posted on: Fri 17 Feb 2012

The Daggers welcome Cheltenham Town to the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Stadium on Saturday as John Still's side look to continue their recent good home form.

Recent Form

The Daggers have won three out of their last four home games in npower League Two, those victories have come against Barnet, Gillingham and most recently Rotherham
United. An inspired 2nd half performance saw the Daggers overcome the Millers 3-2 despite being 1-0 down at the half time interval.

Away from home this good form hasn't been replicated, a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday at Oxford United extended the Daggers winless run on the road, it was at Bradford in August that Still's side last picked up 3 points on their travels. Tuesday's defeat saw the Daggers drop to 23rd in npower League Two.

Cheltenham Town on the other hand are flying high and currently sit in 2nd spot in npower League Two. They would be League leaders but Tuesday saw them also fall to a defeat, Torquay United came away with all three points courtesy of a 1-0 win.

Away from home Cheltenham have been impressive on the whole but are without a win in their last 2 travels. Recently they're drawn with Hereford and lost to Crawley Town.

Team News

The Daggers made it through Tuesday's trip to Oxford unscathed and John Still is slowly beginning to get a fitter squad to choose from. Brian Woodall sat out on Tuesday with a groin problem and he's touch and go for Saturday, he trained on Thursday and if he's able to train today he's likely to be involved.

Matthew Saunders made his debut for the club on Tuesday and Medy Elito also impressed in a cameo off of the bench. Luke Howell has re-joined full training but won't be risked just yet, Sam Williams, Kevin Maher & Peter Gain will also miss out as they continue to recover from their injuries.

Cheltenham Town look set to welcome back captain Steve Elliot from injury, the centre back has been absent with a torn calf but is likely to be involved on Saturday. Russ Penn is also expected to recover from an injury and line up in the centre of midfield alongside Ex-Dagger Marlon Pack.

Despite being level at half time the Daggers were unable to hang on to a point with an impressive Cheltenham side. Jon Nurse had got the Daggers back in the game on the stroke of half time but a 2nd half strike from Jimmy Spencer followed a Alan Bennett header to give the Robins all 3 points.

The Daggers lined up as follows:

Lewington, Ogogo, Doe, Arber, McCrory, Scannell, Lee, Gain (Bingham, 79), Tomlin, Nurse, Hewitt (Woodall, 65).
Subs Not Used: Shea, Walsh, Rose

One To Watch - Darryl Duffy

Scottish striker Duffy was a summer signing for the Robins following his release from Bristol Rovers. Duffy started his career with Glasgow giants Rangers but did not quite make the grade there so left and made his name at Falkirk. 21 goals in the 04/05 season earnt him a move to England with Hull City paying a rumoured £250,000 for his services, since then he's hopped around the English leagues finding the form he showed at Falkirk tough to replicate. His best season to date in English Football was with Rovers but with seven goals in 18 appearances this season Duffy is showing the form he had a few years ago.
