Rotherham United preview
It's just five short weeks since Daggers and tomorrow's visitors Rotherham United crossed swords for the first time this season.
A re-arranged date at the massive bowl that is the Don Valley Stadium took place in early February, the original game scheduled for the week prior to Christmas being snowed off.
That freezing night in Sheffield saw the South Yorkshire Millers triumph 2-0 with courtesy of both goals in the opening half-hour and from that point the game turned into something of a damage limitation exercise for Daggers.
Since, Daggers' form has improved markedly and they go into this second encounter on the back ofa four match unbeaten run, having won twice and not conceded in the last three games.
Rotherham are just beginning to lose touch a little with the other promotion challengers, following two defeats on the trot - only the second time this season the Yorkshire side have lost two in succession and ironically the previous occasion was just before they met Daggers in February.
A big miss for the Millers at the moment is skipper and central defender Ian Sharps, who damaged a hamstring in the opening half-hour of their clash at Rochdale a fortnight ago. Rotherham went on to crash 4-0 at Spotland - their heaviest defeat of the campaign so far.
That was followed last Saturday by defeat in League 2's Yorkshire derby, when Bradford City, now under the much travelled ex-England under 21 boss Peter Taylor, inflicted a 2-1 defeat on the Millers at Don Valley, courtesy of a goal with 'the last kick of the match'.
Millers boss Ronnie Moore, back in his second spell in charge of the club he served so wonderfully as a goal-scoring striker, has accused his defenders of 'rank bad marking' in those two defeats and will be looking for an improvement at Victoria Road.
Moore played over 250 games in the Millers' Red as he did for the other club in his career, League 1 Tranmere Rovers, whom he managed between his two spells in charge in South Yorkshire.
He was Tranmere boss until last summer - his son Ian Thomas-Moore still plays for them - and was the first man Rotherham turned to when their previous manager Mark Robins made the short trip across South Yorkshire to take over at Championship Barnsley.
Rotherham's promotion bid has been built on the goals of striker Adam Le Fondre, 22 in 31 games, justifiying his £100,000 signing from Rochdale last summer - Robins' last purchase for the club.
Tom Pope, another big money striker capture from Crewe, hasn't been so successful, although he is beginning to find his feet more in the second-half of the campaign.
Behind Le Fondre's remarkable haul, midfielder Kevin Ellison comes next with seven from midfield, while fellow midfielders Danny Harrison and Gary Roberts have chipped in with three apiece.
Since the teams last met, Moore has brought in teenage midfielder Josh Walker from Championship Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the campaign and has extended Blackburn Rovers' pair full-back Gareth Gunning and winger Marcus Marshall's loan spells with the Millers.
Prior to their two recent defeats, Rotherham had been in decent form, with wins over Lincoln City and Burton Albion both away, and draws with Torquay and Shrewsbury since they last met Daggers.
John Still's side will be without the midfield experience of Peter Gain for tomorrow. Further accumulated bookings have meant a one game ban for him. Yoann Folly and Marlon Pack, whose loan from Portsmouth will have been hopefully been extended, should anchor the midfield, while Jon Nurse and Graeme Montgomery vie for the vacancy on the left flank.
Isle of Wight referee James Linington takes charge of his first game involving the Daggers this season.
