Benson signs for Charlton

Posted on: Thu 02 Sep 2010

Dagenham & Redbridge striker Paul Benson has signed for League One Charlton Athletic this afternoon for an undisclosed fee.

Charlton made a number of enquiries during the past few weeks and finally reached a price that was considered to meet the Clubs' valuation of him. Paul was permitted to speak to Charlton and, having weighed up his options over the weekend, has chosen to sign for the South East London Club. This policy has brought a number of players to the Club who might not have otherwise signed.

The decision to allow Paul to speak to Charlton was made in accordance with the Clubs policy that if any acceptable offer is made then the opportunity for the player to discuss personal terms with the other club is offered to them.

Paul joined the Daggers from White Ensign in 2005 and since then his career has blossomed. He won caps at England C level and won a Conference championship medal in 2007. His biggest achievement though was scoring the first goal at Wembley last May as the Club won promotion to League One in the League Two play off final.

In total, Paul made 201 competitive appearances for the Daggers scoring 84 goals.

The Club wishes to place on record that they are extremely grateful for the service Paul gave to the Club and wish him every success in the future.

John Still is already active in looking to strengthen the squad and funds will be made available.
