The Daggers sent a very young side to Histon on Wednesday for a friendly fixture and left with a 2-0 victory. After a goalless first half, an Alex Osborne penalty and a goal from Nikki Ahmed secured the win. Gareth Gwillim was given a warm reception on his return to the Glass World, his first appearance since leaving the Stutes for Dagenham & Redbridge in the summer.
As early as the 16th minute Tommy Tejan-Sie found space to test Lawton with a shot from the edge of the area and then moments later fired over when well placed. Mohammed Derby's free-kick was well saved by Lawton. The Daggers almost took the lead on the half hour when trialist Bernardo Quainoo combined with Connor Okus, but Lawton again produced a fine save to keep the scores level. Lawton again denied Quainoo five minutes before the break and Okus looked certain to fire the visitors in front before a last-ditch tackle by Kayouke.
Early in the second period Daggers substitute Alex Osborne had a great chance to score when he ran clear from Ahmed's pass, but after taking the ball past Lawton he could only fire into the side netting from a tight angle. The deadlock was broken in the 53rd minute when a foul by Patrick O'Connor resulted in a penalty which Osborne converted. Histon conceded a second in the 73rd minute when Phil Walsh headed a deep cross back across goal and Ahmed was on hand to flick the ball into the net.
