Dagenham & Redbridge Back Football for Heroes week
Dagenham and Redbridge are joining forces with all 72 Football League Clubs in a united week of action to raise awareness and vital funds for Help for Heroes - The Football League's Official Charity Partner for the 2009/10 season.
Football for Heroes week is taking place between March 6 and 14 allowing the whole of The Football League to show its support for the efforts of our Armed Forces.
Dagenham and Redbridge will be holding their game against Rotherham on the 13th March 2010 Club Chief Executive Steve Thompson said "We are really pleased that the Football League chose Help for Heroes as their official charity for the season. We are delighted we can support the charity at our game against Rotherham. Our Local community has tragically been affected by the lost of two young soldiers in the current campaign".
Daggers have already shown their support for Help for Heroes by donating match tickets to a number of organisations who have been fund raising for help the heroes and have been please to do so.
Lord Mawhinney, Chairman of The Football League said: "The contribution being made by our armed forces around the world is both outstanding and humbling. As a nation we seldom thank them enough for the sacrifices they make. The Football for Heroes week will provide an excellent opportunity for supporters to show their appreciation for the work they do."
At the game on Saturday a number of members of the Dagenham Branch of the Royal British Legion will be collecting on behalf of the Help for Heroes charity and will form a guard of honour as the two teams enter the pitch together with a serving member of the Royal Marines who has recently returned from Afghanistan.
