John Still has one completed signing in the bag, in the versatile Phil Walsh and one loan deal completed, talented teenager Marlon Pack joining Daggers for an initial month, but the Victoria Road boss isn't ruling out further activity in the remaining near-three weeks of January.
Generally, transfer activity has been slow nationally - maybe as an indirect result of the 'big freeze' - but boss Still says "I don't rule out bringing in at least one other new face before the end of the month, maybe two."
The six foot three inch Walsh has trained with Daggers for a week, but understandably hasn't yet managed his first outing in a Daggers shirt due to the weather.
John Still says he wants to see Walsh get at least one game under his belt before including him in the first-team squad, but says the former Dorchester forward or central defender's fitness is right up to the mark. "Ironically he's had more training or match practice, than our regular players," says the manager.
Of the tall holding midfielder Pack, who joined Daggers last week from Premier League Portsmouth, his loan deal is the conclusion of a long wait for the manager.
"I was aware of Marlon last season, when we played Pompey's junior sides and took Matt Ritchie on a full season's loan. Wycombe beat us to him at the start of this campaign and he played seven or eight times for them under Peter Taylor, but went back to Portsmouth when the management changed at Wycombe. Normally, I don't like short-term loan solutions, but I'm hopeful that we can make a long term arrangement with Portsmouth if Marlon does well in his first month."
Boss Still is hopeful of striking a similar arrangement with Chelsea over Nanna Ofori-Twumasi, whose second month's loan with the club is now over and the Victoria Road boss hopes to have the young full-back's short-term future sorted inside the next week.
Adam Miller's permanent move to the club hasn't materialised and the midfielder returned to his parent club Gillingham at the start of this week, having completed his two month arrangement.
"Gillingham didn't want a fee for Adam, but his pay structure there was much higher than what we have here. Adam has done wonderfully for us in his time at Daggers, but somewhat like Matt Lockwood before him, we just couldn't keep him."
Staying with the club, however, is another former Gillingham player in Danny Spiller. He joined the club on a six month deal in the summer, but has been injured for half that time and has now signed until the end of the season.
"Danny has recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him out for half the time he's at the club. Now he's fit he's beginning to show the talent that undoubtedly has", Says John Still of the former Gills and Millwall midfielder.
The Daggers boss says he's pretty desperate for his side to get a game in view of the most disruptive five weeks he has known in a long time. Since Daggers beat Bury on December 11, they have had fixtures at Rotherham and Torquay ruled out because of the frozen weather and even had a free Saturday a fortnight ago without the weather's intervention, due to their scheduled opponents Notts County still being involved in the FA Cup.
Only the two Christmas games, an unlucky 1-0 defeat at Northampton and the poor home performance against Cheltenham, have been played in that time and in light of the defeats, boss Still says his team needs matches to get back to winning ways.
"We haven't been able to arrange any games at academy or reserve level, so haven't been getting the match practice we need. We're pretty desperate that Saturday's home game with Crewe goes ahead."
