Daggers through on penalties

Posted on: Sun 08 Nov 2009

Following an exciting 3-3 draw after extra time the Daggers won 5-4 on penalties against Great Wakering Rovers in the Essex Senior Cup, Third Round.

Only the West Stand was open to give supporters the opportunity to experience the new stand.  The Daggers line-up included, Mark Nwokeji who started for the first time in nearly a year after a cruciate knee injury. Rovers included ex Dagger Steve Heffer.

The supporters in the new stand witnessed a very entertaining match and saw the home side take the lead on twelve minutes. Mark Nwokeji from right ran into the six-yard line and squared the ball for Joao Carlos to tap home at the far post.

Rovers equalised on 43 minutes from Neil Richmond, his 9th goal of the season. The striker ran into the area and blasted the home.

Steven Demetriou then gave the Daggers the lead on 55 minutes with a cross-cum-shot but nine minutes later, back came the vistors when Richmond grabed his second of the night.

For the third time of asking the Daggers were back in the lead when Billy Bingham stabbed home from a Graeme Montgomery corner-kick on the right.

Great Wakering, who are currently top of the Ryman League Division North, equalised in the third minute of injury time from Ben Hudson to force extra time.

No goals were added in the extra thirty minutes so it was all down to the lottery of a penalty shoot-out. The Daggers came out on top winning 5-4 from the spot-kicks with Nwokeji scoring the winner after three saved penalties from Rovers and two from the Daggers.
