Jon Nurse interview

Posted on: Wed 02 Sep 2009
Two goal hero Jon Nurse was just happy to be playing after a stop-start beginning to the season.

The year started brilliantly with a tremendous strike at Crewe before injury meant a couple of weeks on the sidelines for the former Stevenage man. But the sale of Sol Taiwo to Cardiff gave Nurse another opportunity against Lincoln at the weekend and he made the most of it.

"It's nice to be back playing. After the first game of the season, I scored a good goal and played well, and then I jarred my knee and since then I've trying to get back. I came back today and managed to be part of the team."

Nurse's two goals were quite different. The first one showed a composed finish as he forced his way past the Imps defence.

"I came down the left hand side, come inside and tried to play off Benno. It bounced back to me and I managed to put it into the bottom corner."

The second goal however was a typical poacher's strike; a type of goal we might see more of from Nurse this season.

"They're the goals for me that I need to learn how to score. Those that are in and around the box where you stick your leg out and that's how you get 20 goals a season. I just have to score more of them. You watch Benno and Benno is brilliant at it. If I can add to that to my game I'll get goals here and there."

Nurse also offered some praise to the new players this summer, who have adapted to League Two level extremely well so far.

"They're brilliant. The gaffer always bring in good players and they're always hungry to learn. Everyone the gaffer signs, they're all hungry players with a point to prove and they've been brilliant since they've come in."
