Daggers 1 Leyton Orient 0
Scott Griffiths headed the Daggers a single goal victory over near neighbours Leyton Orient at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium.
Griffiths scored with virtually the last touch of the game which will no doubt keep the squad in good spirits with the big kick-off just a week away.
The visitors had to make a late change just before the start of the match as Harry Baker, originally on the substitutes bench, came in for John Melligan.
It was Baker who had the game's first attempt on goal, only to slice his right footed shot wide. His attempt was closely followed by a long range Jamie Scowcroft volley, which bounced well wide.
The Daggers main danger early on came from Danny Green's right boot. His first cross nearly reached Jon Nurse while a corner saw his skipper Mark Arber fly in to head just wide.
Sean Thornton curled a long range free-kick narrowly over as both sides continue to force chances in a pretty competitive first half. The midfielder should really have scored after latching on to a Jason Demetriou cross. Thornton somehow skewed his effort wide when it looked easier to score.
Jon Nurse was given an opportunity to partner Paul Benson up front and his work rate almost carved a goal. He robbed Luke Ashworth off the ball inside the Orient area. Nurse's shot was a powerful one but it kept rising over the bar.
Solomon Taiwo meanwhile hit a shot from distance which went past Jamie Jones's left post.
The first half ended with a couple of Leyton Orient attacks. A really good O's move down the Daggers right saw the ball end up at Jimmy Smith's feet. The home defence crowded out his shot while the back four also worked hard to deflect a Charlie Daniels shot wide.
Melligan lined up at the start of the second half for the visitors, replacing Baker at half time.
Orient stretched the Daggers defence not long after the restart. The ball reached Scott McGleish whose shot, directed at the near post, was gathered by Roberts.
In truth there was little excitement in the second half and the game became rather a scrappy affair. Taiwo received a yellow card for a nasty looking challenge with Daniels.
If anyone it was the Daggers who were likely to win, and Benson as ever was a nuisance for the visitors defence. He latched onto a long ball and managed to squeeze in a shot. Jones watched as the ball rolled, almost in slow motion, against the post.
Taiwo teed a volley that went high and wide before the game was interrupted further as both sides introduced a host of substitutes.
The Daggers really should have won it moments before Griffiths's goal. Taiwo swung in a super free-kick that Mark Arber headed wide of the post. The captain's visible disappointment at his effort emphasised the fact that he expected to do better.
Nevertheless the Daggers did go and win it right at the end. Taiwo put in another cross, this time from a corner, and Scott Griffiths, not for the first time in pre-season, found himself with a header that he despatched into the corner.
