Following speculation in a National newspaper this week as well as a number of websites Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still wishes to clear up the issue regarding striker Paul Benson with the true facts.

"Mark Stimson rang me a while ago and asked what figure I'd be looking for to sell Paul Benson to Gillingham.

"I replied that Paul is not for sale but if he'd like to make an offer that I believe is a fair price I'd take it to the Board for them to think about. I told Mark that it wasn't worth offering £15,000-£20,000 as it would be no where near enough.

"After this the Gillingham Chairman contacted one of our Board members and said that he was told Paul was available for £25,000. This was not true.

"At no time have Gillingham made a serious offer for the services of Paul Benson.

"Paul is very happy here at Dagenham & Redbridge FC and all Gillingham are trying to do is unsettle the player."
