Academy win

Posted on: Sun 29 Mar 2009
The Daggers won their first game in eight and also their first league win since October on a windy chilly morning at Gosling Sports Park. The margin of victory was pleasing for the Daggers after dominating the game for long periods.  Lee Goodwin made only two changes from our defeat at home to Wycombe a fortnight ago.

The Daggers went at their hosts from the off and a Jay Nash effort on 19  minutes brought a good save from Elf. On 24 minutes and Barnet's only serious effort of the game, brought a fine save from Mason Durrell, who dived to his right following a Brett header. Twelve minutes later the visitors took the lead. An Alfie Wren free kick from 25 yards, was met by centre half Sonny Adams for his fourth goal of the season. Daggers continued to push forward and just before the break, another Nash effort from a Charlie Hurlock through ball was just wide of the post.
After a short but firm half time team talk, the reds made it two after only 30 seconds of the restart. The excellent Lewis Bourne played a great ball through ball to Michael Amponsah whose short just went over the line despite a desperate clearance.

Playing against a strong wind, another Hurlock ball was picked up by substitute Matt Pooley who slotted home at the second attempt and with 20 minutes to go and continued domination, the Daggers should have added further to their lead, Bourne and Nash both had shots just wide of the upright.

Another substitute Tyrone Cassius played in Pooley again with five minutes remaining, who tapped home into an empty net following good movement throughout the team. Two minutes was left on the clock and the hosts pulled a goal back when Sam Clark was left unmarked. This did not deter the Daggers and within 60 seconds, another good run from Cassuis on the right, crossed and captain Hurlock crashed home to make it 5-1.

After the game, a delighted Lee Goodwin commented "A great all round performance, it all clicked today and we should have won by 8".
Next Saturday, the Daggers will hope they can take this performance further, when they entertain mid table side Brentford 11am kick off.

Team: Durrell, Wootton, Cuthbert, Adams, Mead, Bourne, Demetriou (Pike 66 mins), Hurlock, Nash, Amponsah Pooley (56 mins), Wren (Cassius 75 mins). Unused subs: Brien and Burbridge
