Daggers slumped to the bottom of npower League One with this disappointing defeat at a wet Meadow Lane.
A goal from former Kettering striker Craig Westcarr seven minutes into the second half was just enough to give Notts. County their first points of the season, but John Still and his team will be wondering quiet how they managed to come away from Nottinghamshire empty handed after dominating the first half.
The starting XI showed just one change from the opening day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday with Josh Scott replacing the injured Gavin Tomlin up front, while Danny Green and Peter Gain both returned to the side having started the Carling Cup tie at MK Dons on the bench.
Despite their enforced ten day lay off The Daggers started brightly and were close to grabbing a fourteenth minute lead. A dangerous left wing cross from Gain evaded both Scott and Paul Benson in the six yard box and County defender Mike Edwards was able to turn the ball behind for a corner.
Having been beaten 3-0 in both their opening two league matches County were understandably nervous and with the home crowd beginning to become unsettled The Daggers looked to take full advantage.
A lovely 24th minute move down the left involving Damien McCrory and Benson saw Scott burst clear of Edwards but his low shot was well saved by the legs of keeper Stuart Nelson.
Stuart Lewis and Benson then combined well to create an opening for Mark Arber in the inside left channel ten minutes later but with time and space The Daggers skipper only succeeded in shooting tamely across the face of the goal.
It was all one way traffic at this point and Still's men came even closer nine minutes before the break. Scott left Edwards in his slipstream again before cutting inside and smashing a shot against the inside of the post with Nelson only able to watch on in relief as the ball bounced out to safety.
But that proved to be the turning point as County finished the half on top. Ben Davies shot narrowly over the top from the edge of the area in the 41st minute while John Spicer was then unable to test Tony Roberts with a header from a Davies corner two minutes later that also flew over the bar.
The hosts carried that improvement into the start of the second half and Roberts had already denied Davies when County made The Daggers pay for their earlier profligacy as they went in front seven minutes after the restart. A lovely ball from Davies sent Westcarr clear the Daggers offside trap and he kept his composure to fire past Roberts from the edge of the area.
The whole complexion of the match had now changed and it was very nearly 2-0 on the hour when Westcarr reacted quickly to a weak back header from Arber but Roberts was alert to the danger to deny him with a smart save.
With the points now slipping away Still made his first change as Damian Scannell replaced Lewis five minutes later and he made an instant impression with some strong running down the left but it was County who continued to look the more dangerous.
Spicer did well to dispossess Gain out on the left but he could only fire into the side netting from a tight angle while only a great last-ditch tackle from Scott Doe prevented Burgess doubling the County advantage.
The visitors made more changes as Jon Nurse replaced Scott and Darren Currie came on for McCrory but the expected late Daggers bombardment never really materialised.
In fact the nearest they came to rescuing a point was a flick from Benson that caught Nelson wrong-footed ten minutes from time but with the County keeper desperately back-peddling the ball looped just the wrong side of the post.
Then, deep into injury time, Danny Green tried his luck with a free kick from 30 yards but despite the ball zipping off the wet surface Nelson was able to keep it out and The Daggers had slipped to the bottom of the table.
