Dagenham and Redbridge had to battle hard to secure an impressive goalless draw at high flying Bury.

The hosts , who started the campaign in the third promotion spot in League Two, perhaps had the better opportunities, but the Daggers rearguard held firm to secure a deserved point and ensure that they themselves remain in touch with the rest of the play-off contenders.

John Still probably anticipated a hard fought battle and this was reflected in his team selection. He decided to give Yoann Folly his first start in the centre of midfield with Peter Gain pushing to the left.

The Daggers were grateful for an offside flag that prevented Ryan Lowe from opening the scoring for the home side. Ryan Creswell meanwhile had a header that beat Tony Roberts only for the ball to be cleared off the line.

Still's side did have the ball in the back of Bury's net. Mark Arber's shot was turned in by Josh Scott but just as the forward began to celebrate he noticed that the referee's assistant had raise a flag to signal offside.

The visitors also had another couple of chances, none better than Paul Benson who fired wide of the target after being sent through on goal.

Mark Arber meanwhile headed wide but he and the rest of his Daggers team-mates were grateful to Roberts for pulling off a brilliant save towards the end to deny David Worrall netting a late winner.

The Daggers did drop a spot in the league after this result, but the draw keeps the momentum that Still's side is gradually building as they eye up on of those play off spots.
