It was fair to say that the attackers were on top of this game straight from the start as the Daggers marched into the second round of the Johnstone's Paints Trophy.

The Daggers started on the front foot and opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Glen Southam started the move, threading a nice through ball into Mark Nwokeji's path. Nwokeji struck a fine shot that was well parried by Barnet keeper Ran Kadoch, but Paul Benson was on hand to slide home the loose ball. The lead only lasted two minutes. Former Dagger Cliff Akurang was at the heart of this Barnet equaliser, benefiting from ricochet before finding strike partner Adam Birchall. Birchall was on hand to finish beyond Ed Thompson. Birchall was also to be the next scorer. Full-back Ashley Carew swung over an excellent cross and the striker produced an equally excellent header to direct the ball into the top corner. The scoring didn't relent and the Daggers were back on level terms just before the half hour mark. Richard Graham swung in a low cross, and the ball reached Mark Nwokeji who calmly struck the ball into the bottom corner. The scoring in the first half was completed with a truly super strike. Benson's first touch in bringing the ball down was exquisite and his lob over the keeper from twenty yards was inch perfect.

There was only one more goal to report during a much quieter second half. It came from the penalty spot and it secured The Daggers' passage into the next round. Jon Nurse was hauled down in the box by Aswad Thomas. Glen Southam stepped up and watched as his well placed spot-kick beat the dive of Ran Kadoch. While the visitors pushed in the final few minutes, Thompson wasn't tested too much and the Daggers, sporting a few changes from their usual League line-up, were able to ease themselves through. John Still was also able to use his three substitutes early in the second half including the introduction of Peggy Lokando, who produced a tidy debut.
