Dagenham and Redbridge are now in a play-off spot after they produced arguably their best performance of the campaign to overwhelm Coca Cola League Two leaders Brentford.

A super atmosphere, helped by a magnificent away support greeted the two teams. Brentford had the first attempt as Sam Wood turned an effort wide while the Daggers responded with a Ben Strevens effort from a tight angle that fizzed over.

It was fast and frenetic start to the game but that pace suits the Daggers and John Still's men began to exert themselves on the visitors. They had a shout for a penalty after Paul Benson and Alan Bennett tangled inside the area. The referee pointed in the visitors direction as he awarded the Bees a free-kick.

The Daggers poured forward with Sam Saunders finding Matt Ritchie. Ritchie's didn't really connect with his first time effort and he hit it straight at Ben Hamer.

Their industry was rewarded on 20 minutes. Benson shrugged off Brentford's handball claims to lay the back to Saunders. The midfielder made it four in four with a calm finish as he stroked the ball into the corner of the net.

The goal didn't dampen the home side's enthusiasm for more. Strevens somehow darted past the goalkeeper and squeeze in the shot from the most impossible of angles. Strevens was denied a goal by an equally magnificent goal line clearance from Ryan Dickson.

The Daggers did get a second before the half time break but that wasn't before the Bees had the best spell of the half. Sam Williams took the ball down on his chest and worked a shooting opportunity which he failed to control. Marcus Bean meanwhile found himself through on goal but found David Button in good form as the on loan keeper made a very good save with his left hand save.

It was a special strike that doubled Dagenham's lead. Hamer had punched a Saunders corner right to Solomon Taiwo on the edge of the Brentford penalty area. Taiwo teed up a volley and then struck a screamer of a shot that found the corner of Hamer's goal.

The second goal was just reward for the Daggers first half performance and this was reflected in Andy Scott making a change before the break.. Damian Spencer came on for Adam Newton as Brentford reverted to a more attacking 4-3-3 formation.

Matt Ritchie fizzed a shot narrowly over as the Daggers continued their form into the second half. They created extra breathing space ten minutes after the re-start. Saunders curled in a deep corner and there was Mark Arber to head home Daggers third.

In front the best crowd of the season Still's side were clearly enjoying themselves stringing several passes past the league's outstanding side. Saunders found Ritchie with one such accurate pass, and the winger curled a shot that was grasped by Hamer.

Wood fired a long range shot as Brentford still hoped for a way back into the game. But the Daggers work rate hardly relented, typified by a Magnus Okuonghae block on a Billy Clarke shot and the win the Bees were searching for to gain promotion would have to wait another game.

There was almost a goal from Scott Griffiths. The full-back latched onto a Ritchie before seeing his shot smothered by Hamer.

Brentford did score right at the end . Spencer turned the ball home after the Daggers were unable to deal with a corner. But this was always going to the Daggers night and it certainly sets up an exciting end to the season.
