Drama at Saltergate as Sam Saunders' injury time equaliser gave the Daggers a well earned point against Chesterfield. In fact just seconds after our leveller Ben Strevens hit the post in the 94th minute, which could have given John Still's men all three points.
The opening half was nothing to write home about as the windy conditions played a big part in the game.
Tony Roberts was called into action in the sixth minute when a long throw from Kevin Austin, which Magnus Okounghae missed his header gave Gritton a chance with his head but Roberts saved well to his right.
Best chance of the half for the Daggers was started by Okuonghae after he survived a nasty challenge from Derek Niven threaded the ball for Sam Saunders and his cross was met by Doug Loft who turned the ball for Jamie Guy, which slipped past the defender and his shot was smothered by Lee.
Just five minutes remaining in the opening period Solomon Taiwo's low drive went straight to Lee after some good work from Loft and Saunders. Straight back down the other end and another low drive, this time by Jack Lester after beating two tackles had his effort ttipped away by Roberts.
The half finished when Strevens passed for Loft and his solo run ended with a low drive, which flew just past the upright,.
The second half, was much livelier and on 51 minutes Drew Talbot on loan from Luton Town broke clean through the Daggers defence and fired his shot at Roberts, who tipped away but Talbot reacted first from the rebound but his effort hit the sidenetting.
Lewis Montrose went very close to scoring as his effort hit the crossbar after some fine work from Talbot and Jamie Lowry a bit of a let off for the Daggers.
A minute later Okuonghae broke a Chesterfield attack and his long ball for Guy gave the loanee a great chance on goal but his right footed shot hit the woodwork.
Just after the hour Scott Griffiths produced a superb tackle against Talbot and he set up Strevens, which he followed the ball towards Guy and his final shot was deflected by Aaron Downes to go just wide.
But on 77 minutes the Spireites took the lead from Gritton. A ball in from the right into box was half cleared by Okounghae and there was Gritton to stab the ball home.
After the opening goal the Daggers then bombarded the Chesterfield defence and could have won the game in the final quarter of the match.
Tommy Lee produced the save of the afternoon as Strevens and Guy combined well and it was left for Doug Loft with a left foot shot, which amazingly Lee saved out-stretching his leg.
Time was running out for the visitors as Jamie Guy prospered from an advantage after a hand ball shout on 89 minutes. Guy then ran on to fire a perfect shot with Lee looking beaten but his effort was inches over the bar.
But the drama was to follow in the 90th minute. There were two goalmouth scrambles, which the final one ended in a corner for the Daggers. Matt Ritchie, this time took a deep corner-kick which sailed over everyone, except for Sam Saunders who touched the ball into the back of the net to the delight of the 102 Daggers fans on 93 minutes.
In the final attack of the match Strevens was a lick of paint away from steeling the game as his shot beat Lee in the Chesterfield goal and fired against the post.
A fitting finale at the end as the Daggers produced a very good display after a low-key first half.
