For the first time this season, Dagenham and Redbridge have won their third game in a row and it has come at just the right time of the season.

The third victory was well deserved, as they triumphed over fellow promoted side Morecambe courtesy of a first goal from Peter Gain and yet another Ben Strevens strike.

Gain's goal was particularly fortuitous. Whilst the former Peterborough man struck a decent shot from fully 25 yards, Morecambe goalkeeper Shwan Jalal seemed to be in a good position to make a comfortable save. Yet Jalal fumbled the ball, allowed it fall between his legs and watched in horror as it rolled gently over the line.

That goal came midway through the first half, and it was deserved as Dagenham had the upper hand through the first period. They restricted their visitors to a couple of early efforts from Garry Thompson and Danny Adams and could have had one or two more goals themselves.

Glen Southam enjoyed a lot of possession during the first period and he went close with a delicate chip that sailed over the bar. Meanwhile Jon Nurse tried an ambitious volley that looked initially to be going in, only for the ball to veer away from Jalal's left hand post.

Morecambe improved during the break, and created better opportunities in front of Tony Roberts' goal. Both Carl Baker and Michael Twiss had shooting chances from the edge of the area, both of which missed the target.

However, the Daggers appeared to be more likely to score a second than Morecambe did of finding an equaliser. Gain had a couple more long range efforts, forcing Jalal into making a super one handed save, while the Morecambe keeper was on hand to keep out a Nurse effort early in the second half. Southam thought he might have scored directly from a corner, only for the referee to blow for a foul on the keeper.

Whilst the score remained at one, Morecambe were still in the game and one or two nerves set in. During the final ten minutes a long throw almost reached sub Michael Twiss right in front of the Dagenham goal, with Roberts forced to concede a corner. Mark Arber found himself well positioned to make a couple of crucial clearances.

The points however were confirmed deep into stoppage time. The Daggers capitalised on another defensive error as Ben Strevens latched onto a David Artell back pass. Strevens poked the ball past the onrushing Jalal before sliding it into an unguarded goal.
