Dagenham & Redbridge started their League Two campaign with a 3-0 defeat away to Portsmouth, with all the goals coming in the second half.
In the fourth minute, a cross from Gary Roberts nearly pinged off Matt Richards at the back post into the net, going behind for a corner that was headed wide.
Seven minutes later, Mark Cousins
had to be called into action, saving at the feet of Matt Tubbs after he had been played in by Kyle Bennett.
The pair looked to be having a duel as in the 19th minute, Cousins again denied the forward an opening goal.
Daggers' best chance fell to Jamie Cureton
in the 23rd minute when he was found in the box by Josh Passley but could only head wide.
Portsmouth took the lead six minutes after half time when Gareth Evans headed home powerfully after a corner from the left.
But Ashley Hemmings
went close the following minute, forcing a brilliant save from Brian Murphy in the hosts' goal.
Pompey doubled their lead in the 62nd minute when Kyle Bennett was given the freedom of the box from a throw before smacking the ball in off the crossbar.
