Daggers’ hopes of a point away from home vanished as Luke Young’s 77th minute free-kick ensured all three for Plymouth Argyle.
A dull first half was kicked into life when Reuben Reid put the hosts in front on 44 minutes, but Daggers response was instant when Zavon Hines
tapped in at the back post.
But Wayne Burnett’s side made the trip back with nothing to show for their efforts when Young curled home a dubiously awarded free-kick.
No changes were made from the starting line-up that won 2-0 at home last Saturday against Burton Albion, but the game got off to an uneventful start.
Reuben Reid fired a header wide from a Maxime Blanchard cross after 12 minutes before Daggers enjoyed a spell on top.
They should have gone in front through Zavon Hines
as he found himself unmarked in the box, but he headed Medy Elito
’s cross straight at home goalkeeper Luke McCormick.
Ilesanmi was enjoying plenty of the ball on the front foot and sent in a dangerous cross on 27 minutes, but Rhys Murphy
was unable to get a decisive touch.
Just as it appeared to petering out to half-time Reid gave the Pilgrims a lead when the ball found its way to him just inside the Daggers half and unleashed a right footed effort which went in off the post.
But their lead lasted all of a minute when Hines was on hand at the back post to tap in Gavin Hoyte’s cross, which had taken a deflection off Blanchard.
The start to the second half was almost a carbon copy of the first, with little goalmouth action.
Murphy fired over after Howell had pulled the ball back for the striker on the hour mark but Argyle went straight up the other end and should have done better.
Andres Guerrieri worked his way infield before threading through a ball for Lewis Alessandra but he fluffed his kick and it went harmlessly out for a goal kick.
But the hosts took the lead when Saah conceded a free-kick, rather harshly, on the edge of the area and Young curled the effort into the bottom corner.
Such was his frustration, Murphy found his way into the book for his protests over the free-kick, adding to the earlier booking of skipper Abu Ogogo
– his fifth of the season which means he’ll miss a game.
And though the Daggers looked for a late leveller, Luke McCormick had little to do at the death as Plymouth picked up all three points.
