Goals from Rhys Murphy
and Brian Woodall
helped seal Wayne Burnett’s first home victory as the Daggers ran out 2-0 winners at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium.
Burnett made one change to the side that narrowly lost to Brentford in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night. Brian Woodall
came in to replace Jake Reed who had to settle for a place on the bench.
Neither side managed to create much in the opening stages of the match. It was the visitors who looked most like scoring during this period, the Daggers had defender Brian Saah
to thank for keeping York at bay. He blocked Jarvis’s shot which looked destined for the Daggers goal.
City continued to press the home side, this time it was Scott Doe
who kept the score line 0-0 when he blocked a Richard Cresswell drive.
It was the Daggers that got the breakthrough on the 35 minute mark. Burnett’s side counter attacked York with some free flowing passing. Richard Cresswell was denied by Gavin Hoyte
who launched the Daggers into attack. Brian Woodall
linked well with Murphy and fed the ex-Arsenal striker through on goal, Murphy then rounded the goalkeeper to finish into an empty net.
Half Time – Daggers 1 – 0 York City
York started the second half just as they had started the first, taking the game to the Daggers. The visitors first notable chance of the second half came in the 47th minute when Ashley Chambers forced Chris Lewington
into a good save.
The Daggers continued to break well and nearly doubled their lead when pacey Medy Elito
took the ball past two York players and forced Ingham into a save.
Wayne Burnett’s side did double their lead with ten minutes of the game remaining. Woodall received the ball unmarked on the edge of the area, he shot low and hard to beat the City keeper.
The Daggers could have netted another when Obafemi found himself un marked in the York area however he couldn’t keep his shot on target as he blazed over from close range.
