Daggers 1 - 0 Barnet

Matt Saunders first half wonder strike earned Dagenham & Redbridge a 1-0 victory over Barnet in the npower League Two encounter at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium.

Straight from the kick-off Barnet could have found themselves in front when the first chance fell to midfielder, Andy Yiadom who saw his header go inches wide. Barnet continued to pile on the pressure in the opening quarter of the game and registered their first shot on target following a 25-yard strike by Ricky Holmes that Chris Lewington comfortable saved on the 11th minute.

With the Daggers finally settled in the match, Barnet were made to pay. After a good build up play resulted in Matt Saunders being laid off by Sam Williams from 25 yards out that Saunders emphatically struck and found the top corner to give the Daggers the lead on the 17th minute.

After scoring his second goal on the season, Saunders was involved in the Daggers next chance after his corner found Luke Wilkinson who could only see his header rattle the bar from six yards out.

Into the 2nd half and Matt Saunders was producing a Man of the Match worthy performance. Saunders broke free in the 50th minute and from 25 yards out saw his fierce strike sail over the bar. In search of a second goal to ease the home fans nerves, this almost came when a floated ball on the edge on the 18 yard area was met by Sam Williams who’s header was tipped onto the bar by Barnet’s keeper Graham Stack on the 65th minute.

Former Dutch international and Barnet’s Captain Edgar Davids only meaningful involvement in the game came on the 70th minute after his left footed shot that was heading for target was blocked.

The Daggers had a penalty shout with 15 minutes left to play after Saunders delivered a brilliant cross into the box that Barnet’s Clovis Kamdjo seem to handle as he fell to the ground. Referee Mark Brown was having none of it and the action continued.

Barnet almost equalised late on but John Nurse wasn’t able to convert at the far post following a low delivery from Ricky Holmes. The Daggers managed to see out the final minutes of an intriguing encounter and record back-to-back wins in League Two.
