The Daggers missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on leaders Lincoln City, losing 2-0 at home to Maidstone United
Maidstone took away the three points at the Chigwell Construction Stadium, thanks to goals from Joe Piggot and Delano Sam-Yorke.
There was a few changes to the Daggers line-up after last week’s victory to Bromley, captain Scott Doe returned to the starting line-up replacing Jake Howells. Mark Cousins
made his first league start this season after replacing first choice goalkeeper Elliot Justham.
It was the visitors who scored early as Pigott’s long distance shot was impossible for Cousins to stop, after the ball hit the cross bar and into the back of the net.
The Daggers came very close to equalising through Hawkins, who fought his way past the Maidstone defenders, but saw his low shot go agonisingly wide.
Doe had a header pushed away by Lee Worgan, 35 minutes into the game, from a corner, the Daggers captain then went down in the box, but nothing was given.
Minutes later saw Okenbirhie try his luck on his right foot, his shot was held on the second attempt by Worgan.
The Stones came close to doubling their lead, twenty minutes into the second-half, after a 25 yard drive from Lewis was well saved by Cousins.
Maidstone were disallowed a goal in the 69th minute, it was who Pigott closed down Cousins’ kick, Pigott went round the keeper and scored, but the goal was disallowed as Pigott was too close to Cousins when he kicked the ball.
Another chance came for the Stones as Bobby-Joe Taylor hit the crossbar from a free kick in the 78th minute.
With 10 minutes left till the 90, Stuart Lewis was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Five minutes later saw Sam-Yorke dribble his way through the Daggers defence and slotted it past Cousins.
The last chance for the Daggers came from Fejiri Okenabirhie who came close to scoring in the final minutes of the game as he hit the bar.
The Daggers will play Gateshead away on March the 4th.
